Peaceful surroundings & wel

Our family had a great time at Elk Haven. The cabin had a well stocked kitchen (pots, dishes, silverware) and bathroom (towels, hair dryer, toilet paper). Our daughter loved climbing up into the woods behind the cabin and exploring with her cousin. We also saw the neighbor across the street hand feeding the deer, so naturally they deer came every morning - that was cool to see!

Great Place

Great place to stay! Clean and had everything we needed. So much better than staying in a hotel. Loved being able to have some of the comforts of home. Owners were very friendly!

Cabins during Sturgis bike week

Came through for Sturgis from Virginia Beach on our motorcycles. My friend turned 50 and always wanted to cross the US on his bike...I was the tour guide. We only stayed one night as we were passing through the area. We were the only bikes at the time of our visit. The cabins are not far from all the Sturgis events (1.5 hour ride no matter which route you take from Buffalo Chip early or later in the day; if you wait until all the bikes are out it'll likely take longer). We took our time, stopped a few places and did the Mount Rushmore loop on the way to the cabins from Buffalo Chip and still got there around 4pm. Like many tributarry roads in the west, Little Italy is a gravel road but we had no issue getting to the cabin on our bikes (road is an easy incline to the cabins and no switchbacks or anything like that). The great thing about this location is its very close to a lot of the great loops (needles highway, wildlife loop, Mount Rushmore etc) which with a 9am stands up, you can get to and through many of these loops with little traffic (we could actually ride at posted speeds which was much more fun than brake checking all day). The owner was on site and was very nice, had a brief conversation and let us know if we needed anything to give a call. The cabins are very nice, loaded with most of the ammenities anyone would want/need (wifi, cable, pillows, sheets, towels, coffee, even a small tray of ice, etc..). If you should need something the town is only 5 minutes. No need for A/C as the weather is usually cool enough and does have a ceiling fan to circulate the air if the wind is not blowing. We did find out there is a laundry facility in town, based on the reviews folks can drop off/pick up making an ideal scenario for folks like us with only a few days of clothes on the bikes (we were unable to use this facility but would have had I known about it in advance). Very comfortable, peaceful, quiet area, with deer grazing early and late in the day. Great place for anyone visiting the area.

Enjoyable stay

We really enjoyed our stay. It had pretty much everything we could need on a 3 night stay. Internet access and cable t.v. were a great touch for our down times. We used the kitchen only for toast and coffee and drinks, but it was well furnished. Didn’t use the grill or fire pit, but they were nice to have if we were so inclined. I have to be honest that we didn’t have a great first impression driving in around 6pm, after 5 hours on the road, down the mile long gravel road....some of the neighbors have junk filled yards. Beyond their control, I know, but just being honest. HOWEVER, once we got to the cabin, it was very peaceful, cute design, and not far from the main downtown at all. A great value! And we saw lots of deer all three days on the road to the cabin. The cabin was really clean throughout , although the living room furniture looked like it could use a cleaning. All in all, a nice place that we would come back to. Thanks for hosting us.

nice, but too hot in July -- no AC

We enjoyed our cabin. But we had one major issue. The temperature was in the mid-90's and there was no A/C. When I complained, the manager pointed out to me that it is clearly stated on their website that there is no AC, but I either didn't see it or didn't worry about it. But the place was like an oven. They provide one little fan for the lower bedroom, and a ceiling fan upstairs, but the ceiling fan is in a vaulted ceiling, over the living room, not over the bedrooms. It was just incredibly hot, and we could not sleep. I had to go in to a hardware store and buy a fan for the upstairs bedroom. We did not spend time during the day at the cabin because of the AC issue. Our last day there, the temperature was only in the 80's, and it was tolerable. But I will not go back during the months of July or August, unless they get AC. Other than that, the place was nice and clean. We enjoyed sitting out on the front porch, soaking up nature and the view.

Very nice

Stayed 2 nights wish we stayed longer. Beautiful place to stay while checking out all the sites around the black hills. Clean perfect for my wife and I and our two children. Has direct tv WiFi and a full kitchen and bath. Nice price too way better than a hotel and just about the same in cost too.

Beautiful

Our entire family rented all 5 cabins. The cabins are very cute! The cabin had everything we needed for meal prep! Our family enjoyed hiking & roasting marshmallows on the fire pits almost nightly! The cabin decks have the perfect little table & chairs to enjoy a cup of coffee every morning! The deer in the front of the place running around are just an added touch! We made lots of great memories on this vacation.

We rented all 5 houses for a family reunion. There was 22 total. We had such a good time the kids could run and play as there was a lot of room. It was away from the road so it was very peaceful and enjoyable and close to all the places in the Hills to go see. We would definitely stay here again and recommend this to others. The owners were very accommodating and great to work with.
